People buy laptops for many different purposes. Below are my recommendations for several user demographics.

Casual Users:

One can't dub Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 a powerful computer. It's very basic one, which is exactly what casual users are looking. If you just browse Internet, send emails and call with Skype the performance of this laptop is spot on for you.

In my opinion, the 15.6" screen is a good all-around size for casual users. It's not too big to be cumbersome yet it's compact enough to be mobile. And although the laptop is very cheap, it also features mic and webcam for convenient long distance calls.

Not only is Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 a good choice for casual users, but it also works well for students. I've been a university student and while I had a bit more powerful laptop in my disposal, rest assured this Toshiba runs your student apps and entertainment without a hitch.

As is typical for 15.6" laptop, this Toshiba weights around 5 pounds too. While it's not the most lightweight one available you'll still have no problems carrying it around the campus (I have laptop of this weight and it easily travels in my backpack).

If it's cheap, it usually doesn't suit gamers. Unfortunately, such is the case with Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 too. It's not so much about CPU and RAM but the slow graphics processor that renders this budget laptop problematic for games.

To be honest, newer games featuring cool graphics would hardly run at all on this system. Older and less demanding titles would be playable, although reducing the eye candy would still have to take place. As such, I would strongly recommend against getting this Toshiba if you're into new or demanding games.

Power Users:

I can't say Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 is excellent choice for power user, either. You get basic 1.8GHz Celeron processor and 4GB RAM as your core specs. I know from experience that heavy stuff such as image editing can be done on such a system. But it would still be slow. I'd definitely recommend faster, possible quad-core CPU and 6GB memory for your resource-intensive needs.

The Toshiba also features a 500GB hard drive. It's so-so for power users, largely depending on how big files you are dealing with. If it's huge raw video or image files every day, don't expect the storage to last very long.

I mentioned about bad graphics performance before. That's definitely the situation for heavy games, but the graphics processor and the 15.6" screen are able to play 720p resolution video no problem. So if you're just into movies or series, having this Toshiba is far from disastrous.

Business Users:

What could such a budget laptop give for enterprises? Businesses must have expensive notebooks, right? Well, not quite. If you just deal with spreadsheet, word processing and other lightweight office programs Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 is an ideal choice. It's very cost effective yet runs those basic apps without a hitch.

The webcam/mic combo would also allow you to have conference calls in Skype. The webcam is HD so you can possibly be ready for some high quality video. Seeing your associates or clients in HD will make your day :P

Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 Summary

Toshiba Satellite C55-A5300 is a budget laptop that seems to deliver what it promises: basic performance for attractive price. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not a choice for gamers or heavy users because it lacks real power. But those people usually know well enough to stay away from affordable laptops anyway.

Instead, this Toshiba shines in the hands of casual users, students or businesses. Its price is one of the cheapest in the notebook world, yet it's powerful enough for running smoothly your basic, everyday tasks. The weight at 5.4 pounds is not too bad and allows a mobile person to take this laptop wherever he goes. If you don't require big performance from your laptop, definitely get this Toshiba. You can't go wrong with it!
