People buy laptops for many different purposes. Below are my recommendations for several user demographics.

Casual Users:

If you're looking for a big laptop Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 could be the answer to your needs. The screen size 17.3" is valued by many casual users although the portability is naturally decreased due to the bulky display. The laptop's performance is great for running typical lightweight apps such as web browsing, email and Skype.

The keyboard features dedicated numpad which gives fast access to numbers but pushes the letter keys and trackpad to left. Some don't like such a shifted keyboard. With that being said, it's hard to find a 17.3" laptop without a numpad.

Operating system is Windows 8 which can be upgraded to Windows 8.1 free through Microsoft Online store. However, the display is not a touchscreen and if you want one, you'd have to look for another laptop.

Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 could work for students as well. Many times I've seen students with such big laptops, although I'd personally prefer smaller and more compact choice. After all, many students indeed carry their laptops a lot and the weight of this Acer, 7lbs, could be inconvenient for some. But it's about your preferences here, not mine.

Another point worth mentioning is the battery life. The 6-cell battery gives power for up to 3 hours. That's not great amount, but then again you are sacrificing something for a bigger screen (yes, they consumer more power than smaller ones).

Installing programs from disc media is possible through the built-in optical drive. It also burns DVDs and CDs.

Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 has Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics engine. It runs some older games with solid FPS on medium to high settings. But if you want good frame rates on latest or demanding titles (Battlefield 3 to name one), you would have to reduce settings and resolution a lot. So this system doesn't excel at hardcore gaming but if you don't mind reduced eye candy or settling for older games the Acer should suffice just fine.

Power Users:

Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 has Intel Core i3-3110M processor (2.4GHz, dual cores) and 6GB RAM. That combo is rather powerful and should pose no problem for heavier applications such as video editing. I've been doing daily Photoshopping with system much less powerful without any lagging. And if you want you can swap the installed 2GB memory chip for extra 4GB and get 8GB RAM which is the maximum supported memory for this Acer.

The hard drive is 750GB running on 5400RPM. From my experience it's enough for anybody who doesn't download tons of big files (like movies). If you do, sooner or later you'll have to get external USB hard drive.

1 USB 2.0 port and 2 USB 3.0 ports are featured in this Acer. Along with VGA and HDMI outputs they form a solid base for connectivity, making integration with external USB peripherals or HDTV/monitor seamless.

Business Users:

In business environments, Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 would be best as office laptop for word processing, spreadsheets and slideshares due to its big screen size. Furthermore, you could use either WiFi or Gigabit Ethernet for Internet connection and Bluetooth 4.0 for mobile devices and such. Naturally, also webcam and microphone are supported which are must-have tools if you plan on having video conferences.

See how it compares to other laptops!

Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 Summary

Acer Aspire E1-771-6603 is big and rather powerful laptop that honestly suits most users' needs well. Of course hardcore gamers would do better with another choice, but casual users, students, businesses and power users should definitely find some value in this notebook. For the money, the 2.4GHz CPU, 6GB RAM and 750GB storage drive give some great price/performance ratio.

So there are not many reasons not to get this Acer if you're looking for a laptop of big screen. Naturally the portability is reduced, but that's the tradeoff you must accept. So if you won't be needing a lightweight ultrabook, give this Acer Aspire a go. I'd predict you can't really go wrong with it.
